Mighty & Mini Kids Tri at the Dayton Triathlon

June 21, 2026 at Buck Creek State Park in Springfield, Ohio (North of Dayton & West of Columbus)
NOTE: This page is for kids ages 4-17 that are doing the Mighty and Mini Triathlon Distances. Please note this event follows all-ages races, that complete the course before the kids race.
The Dayton Triathlon and Multisport Festival has something for everyone, including all ages and ability levels! Races include kids, beginner, sprint, Olympic, and â…“ iron distances in triathlons, duathlons, aquabikes, and aquathlons, open runs, and various open swim distances. We are athletes who want to foster a love of multisport training and racing, by hosting fun, safe, and challenging races. Racers call this race one of the best events in Ohio because of our positive, friendly atmosphere. Plus we have a post race meal (bbq, hot dogs, veggies, ice cream and more…) for athletes and spectators, designer tees in gender-specific cuts, in-race pictures, and finisher medals. Come race with us, all are welcome.
All Races are as scheduled, pending permits and permissions from the local jurisdiction. Please refer to the athlete guides for each of these races to learn more. At this time, we are only hosting a kids race at the Dayton Tri. We may consider adding this event to future races. There are plenty of other great kids races throughout the State.

Mini & Mighty Kids Course Overview
- The course is a very scenic swim, bike and run through the Ohio countryside.
- SWIM: The swim takes place in CJ Brown Reservoir, which is an inland lake. It has very little boat traffic for a calm swimming experience. ALL RACERS will swim out and back along the beachfront. Kids in the Mini & Mighty Triathlon will be able to touch bottom the entire swim course. They will swim along the beach (in very shallow water) with lifeguards standing next to them.
- TRANSITION: The transition area will be up a small hill in the parking lots across from the Buck Creek State Park office. Athletes will be on a paved lot as they transition from segment to segment. ALL RACERS use the common transition area. There will be sections for each race type. There will be a special section for all athletes in the Kids in the Mini & Mighty Triathlon.
- BIKE: Kids in the Mini & Mighty Triathlon will be on a CLOSED course without any car traffic; it is fairly flat. The course will be a bike path.
- RUN: The ALL AGES run is also mostly flat as it only rises 76 feet over the course of the 3.1 miles. The run is on almost all on a paved path and road, and has a short section of grass. The run course is CLOSED to all motorized traffic. Kids in the Mini & Mighty Triathlon will use a similar course, that is also closed to vehicles.
- FINISH: Athletes will finish in the parking lots next to the transition area and then can celebrate their accomplishment with our post-race food and drink. ALL RACERS use the same finish line including Kids in the Mini & Mighty Triathlon.
Mini & Mighty Race Start Details
Kids in the Mini & Mighty Triathlon will use a time trial start.
- All athletes will gather at the blue arch on the beach. The Race Director will have a short meeting to review the course. Athletes will line up by ability level & according to race. The race director will call each athlete up to the starting line/cones. Once the timer types in your chip the race direction will say go, and you can enter the water. Athletes will be released one at a time every few seconds into the water. There will be plenty of space between kids to increase safety.
- NOTE: All kids in the Mighty tri will start first, followed by all athletes in the Mini tri.
